Republican Jack Ciattarelli, endorsed by President Donald Trump, has clinched the Republican primary for the New Jersey gubernatorial race, as projected by Decision Desk HQ.
Simultaneously, Decision Desk HQ has also projected that Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill will win the Democratic primary for the New Jersey Governor’s race.
Democrat Josh Gottheimer who has been endorsed by the Lakewood Vaad lost the primary race.
Speaking to an Orthodox Jewish official in Lakewood, the source remarked, “Sherrill isn’t so much of our friend.”
On November 2, 2023, Mikie Sherrill was among the first House lawmakers to call for Israel to implement a “humanitarian pause” in its operations in Gaza, while simultaneously demanding the unconditional release of hostages. She accused the Israeli government of lacking a clear plan or goals for the war and its aftermath. Later in November 2023, the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) alleged that Sherrill had expressed uncertainty during a meeting with Muslim leaders about whether Israel’s operations in Gaza constituted genocide. Sherrill later clarified that she had been misquoted and affirmed that she had stated Israel was not committing genocide.
Jack Ciattarelli, New Jersey’s Republican gubernatorial nominee, has strongly supported Israel, aligning with Republican views on its strategic alliance with the U.S.. He is known to have a friendly relationship with the Jewish community.
The general election, where Ciattarelli and Sherrill will face off, is slated for November 4, 2025. This matchup promises to be a critical battleground, as Republicans hope to flip the state red.
