A man suspected of opening fire in a Midtown skyscraper Monday evening was found dead shortly after police stormed the scene, according to local reporrs

The suspect, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, apparently turned the gun on himself. A police officer was reportedly injured by the suspect, but it isn’t clear if there are any other victims.

Additionally, a man and woman were taken into custody.

Police were called to 345 Park Avenue around 6:40 p.m. on Monday following multiple 911 reports of gunfire. According to Citizen app alerts, a man had been shot in the back, and several others may also have been wounded. One of the victims is believed to be a police officer currently in serious condition.

A level 3 mobilization of the NYPD was dispatched to the scene.

Authorities apprehended a man and a woman at the scene. The woman appeared to suffer a head injury, while the man reportedly shouted, “Free Palestine, I’m not the active shooter!” when detained. Whether there is a connection between the arrested suspect and the shooter is not known at this time.

Roughly 20 minutes later, around 7 p.m., employees began exiting the building at 345 Park Avenue, which houses major firms including Blackstone and the NFL’s main office, holding their hands above their heads. Several emerged in tears as law enforcement guided them to safety.

Due to ongoing police operations, residents are urged to avoid Park Avenue and 53rd Street, as well as East 52nd Street and Lexington Avenue. The situation has caused significant traffic disruptions and may affect public transportation services nearby.
