Israel’s Minister of Religious Services, Michael Malkieli, a Shas party member, received today an envelope containing a suspicious substance at his office in the Knesset. The envelope was handed over to the relevant authorities, and the police were notified.

Earlier today day, Frum Health Minister Uriel Buso, also a member of the Shas party also received a similar suspicious envelope, marking the fourth such incident involving him.

The source of these mailings remains unknown at this time.

The Knesset Spokesperson’s Office stated: “The Knesset Guard is investigating an envelope containing a suspicious powder sent to Minister Michael Malkieli’s office. In accordance with standard procedures for such incidents, the matter has been reported to Israel Police, and the envelope and its contents have been transferred to the appropriate authorities for further examination.”

The phenomenon of suspicious envelopes is not new. In recent weeks, several members of the Knesset, along with other coalition members, have received similar suspicious envelopes, including MK Yaakov Asher, Almog Cohen, and Finance Committee Chairman Moshe Gafni.

Following the incident involving his envelope, MK Avi Maoz who also received the mail, has stated: “Let it be clear: no job offer or threats with envelopes will stop me from voicing my opinions and serving the public in my fight for the Jewish identity of the state.”
