Two Israeli soldiers were murdered and at least six others were injured during separate combat incidents in southern Gaza Wednesday, the military reported Thursday.
Sgt. Yishai Elyakim Urbach Hy”d, 20, a member of the Combat Engineering Corps’ 605th Battalion, from Zikhron Ya’akov, and Staff Sgt. Yam Frid Hy”d, 21, from Sal’it, who served in the Golani Brigade’s reconnaissance unit, were killed by terrorists.
An initial military investigation revealed that Hamas terrorists launched a rocket-propelled grenade at a structure in the Jenina neighborhood of Rafah, where Israeli troops were positioned.
As a result of the attack, the building partially collapsed, fatally injuring Yishai Elyakim. Two other soldiers were also hurt; one sustained serious injuries and the other moderate wounds.
Roughly two hours later, a second violent encounter occurred in the same area.
According to the military’s findings, an armored personnel carrier was struck by an explosive device. The blast killed Yam and left four other soldiers injured, three of whom are listed in serious condition.
