The IDF announced Thursday morning that Staff Sgt. Chalachew Shimon Demalash Hy”d, 21, of Be’er Sheva, who served in the Nahal Brigade’s 932nd Battalion, was killed in action in northern Gaza. He is the second soldier to fall since the IDF launched its current operation in Gaza City.

The deadly exchange took place Wednesday when terrorists ambushed IDF troops in northern Gaza City with live fire. Demalash was gravely wounded in the attack, and despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved fatal.

Earlier in the day, the IDF reported the loss of Maj. Shachar Netanel Bozaglo Hy”d, 27, a tank company commander from Migdal Haemek. He was killed during heavy fighting in Gaza City after his unit came under RPG fire.

Since the war began, the IDF has now suffered 912 combat losses.
