Two soldiers were killed in southern Gaza recently, and their names were cleared for publication Sunday morning Israel time.
Captain Noam Ravid Hy”d, 23, from Sha’arei Tikva, and Staff Sergeant Yaly Seror Hy”d, 20, from Omer, both serving in the Yahalom Unit of the IDF’s Combat Engineering Corps, were killed by terrorists during combat operations in the region, according to the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit.
According to preliminary reports, the soldiers were killed when an explosive device detonated inside a tunnel shaft within a building in the Janina neighborhood. The explosion was likely caused by an undetected improvised explosive device (IED) that was not detected during initial inspections of the tunnel. The investigation is ongoing.
Their families have been informed.
The same incident also left another soldier from the Yahalom Unit critically wounded.
Separately, in a different incident on Saturday, a reservist from the 7007th Battalion of the 16th “Yerushalayim” Brigade sustained serious injuries during fighting in northern Gaza.
The wounded soldiers were transported to a hospital for medical care, and their families have been notified.
