A group of 250 United States state legislators will arrive in Israel next week, the Foreign Ministry confirmed, marking the largest gathering of elected officials to ever visit the country on a single trip, the Times of Israel reported Sunday.

The bipartisan delegation includes five lawmakers from each of the 50 US states, with many making their first trip to Israel. The visit comes as the Foreign Ministry intensifies efforts to bring international delegations amid rising criticism of the ongoing war in Gaza.

Over the course of the weeklong program, the lawmakers will meet with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, President Yitzchak Herzog, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana. They will also tour key sites across Israel, including the Gaza border region, where they are scheduled to plant trees as part of a program underscoring Israel’s security, economic, and social challenges.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized the strategic importance of hosting such a large group, noting that state legislators often influence bills targeting Israel, including measures supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. Israel hopes the visit will help counter anti-Israel legislation at the state level, while promoting initiatives to combat antisemitism and strengthen ties between the US and Israel.

This visit is part of a wider campaign, announced last month, to host some 400 delegations involving more than 5,000 participants by the end of the year, with the stated goal of “helping spread the Israeli narrative in international media.”

Separately, a Foreign Ministry official told the Times of Israel that cabinet discussions on creating a new public diplomacy unit within the ministry, aimed at countering anti-Israel messaging, have been postponed until next week.
