Iranian cyber operatives have successfully hacked the phone of former Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, the Channel 12 news outlet reported Thursday.
Shaked, remembered in the religious community for declaring war on yeshivas and Charedim 11 years ago and leading the campaign to force their enlistment into the IDF, was targeted in several hacking attempts. In one case, she clicked on a malicious link, giving the attackers access to her device.
Two weeks later, the Shin Bet informed her that her phone had been breached.
The report also noted that while Shaked was in office, then–Shin Bet Director Nadav Argaman had warned her that Iranian intelligence was listening in on her conversations.
Shaked responded: “The matter is being handled by the security authorities.”
In recent weeks, similar hacking attempts have targeted ministers, advisors, and senior figures past and present.
Due to the growing number of incidents, the Shin Bet has reminded public officials to avoid clicking on suspicious links and never enter passwords on unverified sites.
