Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar, in a dramatic letter sent to Israel’s cabinet on Thursday night accused Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu of posing a direct threat to national security. Bar’s letter came as the cabinet met to vote on his ouster.

Bar condemned Netanyahu’s decision to block an investigation into the alleged “Qatargate” scandal, claiming that the prime minister’s sudden and urgent move to remove him from his position was not only unfounded but driven by personal conflicts of interest. He argued that such actions were hindering crucial investigative work and presented a serious risk to the nation’s security.

“Significant investigative actions are taking place these days, and obstructing them through a sudden and urgent dismissal, supported by unfounded justifications, is entirely tainted by extraneous considerations,” Bar wrote. “It poses a direct threat to national security.”

In the same letter, Bar also accused Netanyahu of sabotaging efforts to negotiate the release of the remaining 59 Israeli hostages held in Gaza by Hamas terrorists. He claimed that Netanyahu’s decision to remove both himself and Mossad Director David Barnea from leading the talks with mediators had harmed the negotiation process.

“The removal of the Mossad chief and my removal from leading the negotiations harmed the negotiation team and did not advance the release of the hostages,” Bar stated.
