BDE: Harav Chaim Dov Halperin, Zt”l, Son of Vasloiy Rebbe Shlita

It is with sadness that we report the petirah of Harav Chaim Dov Halperin, zt”l, Ra”m of Yeshivas Bohush and rav of the Vasloiy chassidus in Bnei Brak, who passed away on Tuesday after six years of grave illness. He was 47.

Harav Halperin was born in Bnei Brak on the 26th of Adar, 5739, to his father the Vasloiy Rebbe, Harav Avraham Shimshon Shalom Halperin, and his mother, Rebbetzin Tova, a”h, daughter of Harav Yehoshua Heshel Brim, zt”l, Rosh Yeshivas Tiferes Yisrael of Ruzhin, and a mechaneches and menaheles of the Vizhnitz Beis Yaakov in Bnei Brak, the Beis Yaakov in Emanuel, and the Chassidishe Seminary in Bnei Brak. At his bris he was given the name of his great-grandfather, the Rebbe Harav Chaim Dov of Vasloiy, zt”l.

In his youth Harav Halperin learned in Yeshivas Bohush, later advancing to Yeshivas Noam HaTorah in Bnei Brak under Harav Moshe Mordechai Shafran, and subsequently to Yeshivas Brisk in Yerushalayim, where he became a prominent talmid of Harav Avraham Yehoshua Soloveitchik, shlit”a. He was known as a gaon and a rare iluy who devoted himself entirely to Torah.

He married the daughter of his uncle, the Bohusher Rebbe, and together they built their home in Bnei Brak on the foundations of Torah and chassidus. He later served as Ra”m of Yeshivas Bohush and as rav of the Vasloiy chassidim in Bnei Brak.

Less than a month ago, despite his weakened state, Harav Halperin attended the wedding of his son, drawing on his final reserves of strength to rejoice at the simchah. He is survived by his father, his father-in-law, and children, among them yesomim who are not yet married.

The levayah took place Tuesday afternoon, starting from the Vasloiy beis medrash on Rechov Yitzchak Meir HaKohen in the Ramat Aharon neighborhood of Bnei Brak, continuing to the Bohush beis medrash, with kevurah at Beis HaChaim Nachalas Yitzchak in Givataim.
