It is with sadness that we report the sudden passing of Rabbi Avraham (Avi) Piamenta, z”l, a renowned singer, composer, and prominent figure in Chabad Chasidus.

He passed away on erev Shabbos at the age of 69.

Rabbi Piamenta was a co-founder of the iconic “Piamenta Band.”

Born in Yerushalayim on the 27th of Shvat, his father, Yehuda, served as a Shin Bet agent. He was also the nephew of musician Albert Piamenta.

At the age of four, his family relocated to Tel Aviv. A gifted musician from a young age, he played the piano and was instrumental in organizing and performing in musical programs during his studies at Kfar Hayrok.

In the 1970s, he began performing alongside his brother, Yossi Piamenta, with Avi playing the side flute while his brother played the organ. The two brothers established the “Piamenta Band” in late 1974, releasing several albums under that name.

Toward the end of the 1970s, the Piamenta brothers moved to New York and performed for the Lubavitcher Rebbe, zt”l.

In the early 1990s, Avi returned to Israel, continuing his performances both domestically and in the United States.

He is survived by his wife, Yehudit, and their eight children. In 2009, he suffered the tragic loss of his son, Levi, z”l.
