It is with sadness that we report on the tragic petirah of Rebbetzin Hendel Kaplan a”h, wife of Harav Nehemiah Kaplan Shlita and daughter of Hagaon Harav Meshulam Dovid Halevi Soloveitchik Zatzal, Rosh Yeshiva of Brisk.
She was 68.
Last month, Rebbetzin Kaplan was rushed to the hospital in serious condition after suddenly collapsing at her home on Yosef Ziv Street in Yerushalayim, located across from the yeshiva’s building.
Due to the severity of her condition, medical professionals made the decision to intubate her, and the name Chava was added to her as a segulah for a refuah shlaima. She was subsequently transferred to Herzog Hospital, but in recent days her condition worsened, and sadly, shepassed away on Monday.
Her mother, Rebbetzin Yehudis sh’tichyeh, is the daughter of the Harav Asher Sternbuch, zt”l, of London, who was the son-in-law of the Harav Hagaon Harav Shlomo Zalman Pines, zt”l, author of the sefer Panas Shlomo. Her family are descendants of the Vilna Gaon. Her uncle is Hagaon Harav Moshe Shternbuch shlita.
Rebbetzin Kaplan took on the role of cook at her father’s yeshiva, where maintaining strict kosher standards was paramount. Due to the yeshiva’s stringent practices, including special considerations for terumos and ma’asros, Harav Dovid entrusted her with preparing meals to ensure that even those who adhered to these strictures could eat without concern.
She is survived by her family and her brother, Harav Yitzhak Ze’ev Halevi Soloveitchik, Rosh Yeshiva of Brisk. Tragically, her brother, Harav Asher Shlomo Zalman Soloveitchik, zt”l, passed away last year in the month of Nisan 5744 after suffering a sudden stroke at the age of 54.
The Rebbetzin’s levaya will take place at 11:00 PM from her home on Yosef Ziv Street, Kevura on Har Hamunehos.
