A 4-year-old boy from Beitar Illit who suffered severe burns after falling into a boiling soup pot at a Shul last month has been released from Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital following weeks of intensive treatment. Hospital officials said the child sustained second- and third-degree burns across roughly 40% of his body and has now been transferred to ALYN Hospital for rehabilitation.
The accident occurred on a Friday night before Pesach while soup was being distributed at a Shul in his neighborhood. According to his mother, the boy stepped backward near a large pot of boiling soup and fell inside. “His older brother asked him to move away. He stepped back, and without noticing, it was a matter of one second he stumbled backward and fell into the pot,” she said.
The child was rushed to Hadassah’s trauma unit, where doctors immediately transferred him to surgery. Dr. Stav Serna-Cohen, head of Hadassah’s burn unit, said the boy underwent a “long and complex hospitalization,” including sedation, ventilation, multiple burn treatments, surgeries to remove damaged tissue, and skin graft procedures.
Hospital staff said the child was treated by a multidisciplinary team that included nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and dietitians throughout his recovery. “The burns and open wounds have completely closed, and he is now moving to the next stage of recovery, rehabilitation at ALYN,” Serna-Cohen said.
Hadassah said its burn specialists will continue monitoring the child closely during rehabilitation and wished him “a speedy recovery and, as much as possible, a full return to normal life.”
