Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport is preparing for a full resumption of operations Tuesday, despite Iran launching rockets at approximately 10:30 a.m. – after the ceasefire between the Islamic Republic and Israel officially went into effect Tuesday morning. The Israel Airports Authority is moving forward with plans for a gradual return of passenger traffic throughout the day.
Airlines are significantly increasing their flight schedules to clear the substantial backlog of air traffic that accumulated since Israel’s initial strikes on Iran and the subsequent missile fire towards Israeli territory. Even with the post-ceasefire rocket launches, Israeli airspace remained open, with planes already airborne instructed to circle until receiving landing clearance.
Tens of thousands of Israelis, however, remain stranded abroad. According to figures released by the Population and Immigration Authority, between June 13 (the night of Israel’s first strike on Iran) and 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, a total of 95,441 Israelis returned to the country across all points of entry: 52,554 via land crossings, 8,386 by sea, and 34,501 by air. In the same period, 43,976 Israelis departed: 36,045 via land, 2,951 by sea, and 4,980 by air.
