The IDF reported Thursday that a soldier from the Yahalom engineering unit was accidentally left alone by his unit in the Morag axis area, between Khan Younis and Rafah, putting him at risk of fire on both sides, as the IDF could have mistaken him for a terrorist. The soldier continued on foot by himself until he encountered a Golani force, shouting “IDF, IDF” to avoid being mistakenly shot, as had happened in a tragic incident in Shajaiyah at the beginning of the war.

An IDF spokesman stated: “During the return to the territory of the country, an IDF fighter remained alone in the Gaza Strip for about 40 minutes. The fighter reached the area where other IDF forces were and joined them. This is a serious incident that is under investigation from which lessons will be drawn.”
