The Pentagon announced the release of 11 Yemeni detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, who have suspected ties to al Qaeda.

None of the detainees have been charged with a crime and will be resettled in Oman. This move is part of the Biden administration’s efforts to wind down operations at the detention facility.

The Department of Defense said in a statement that each detainee underwent a thorough review by career professionals, who determined they were eligible for transfer.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had notified Congress in 2023 of his intent to repatriate the detainees to Oman.
