The IDF has recovered the body of hostage Yair Yaakov Hy’d, 49, from the Gaza Strip, the army announced Wednesday. The release comes after 614 days of captivity.

His 14-year-old son, Yagil, who was freed from Hamas captivity, shared an emotional tribute on social media: “Dad, I love you. I don’t know how to respond yet, I’m sad to say this, but I’m already waiting for your funeral. I love you, I knew this day would come. Thank you to the IDF and the Shin Bet forces for the rescue, I hope we get the rest in a deal that won’t endanger soldiers.”

Yair Yaakov was the father of Or and Yagel Yaakov, who were also abducted on October 7 and later released in the initial hostage deal.

His body was returned just days after several other murdered hostages were recovered. Over the weekend, the IDF retrieved the body of Natpong Pinta, a Thai citizen kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz during the Hamas attack on October 7. Pinta was reportedly murdered in captivity by the terror group Kata’ib al-Mujahideen near the start of the war. He was 35 years old.

Just two days earlier, the IDF recovered the bodies of Gadi HagaiHy”d and Judy Weinstein Hagai Hy”d, also from Kibbutz Nir Oz, who were killed and taken into Gaza during the same attack.
