ARIZONA – The 5 PM $6 million ransom deadline for Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, has officially passed.
It remains unclear whether any payment has been made, and authorities have not confirmed the note’s authenticity as 100% coming from the actual kidnapper.
FBI in a statement after the ransom deadline: “The FBI is not aware of any continued communication between the Guthrie family and suspected kidnappers, nor have we identified a suspect or person of interest in this case at this time.” The FBI urged the public urged to call 1-800-CALL-FBI with tips.
Moments before the deadline, Arizona’s Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that there are no press briefings scheduled at this time regarding Nancy Guthrie – “Should a significant development occur, a press conference will be called, & media will be notified via email and our Sheriff.”
In another post, the Department said: “Investigators have not identified any suspects, persons of interest, or vehicles connected to Nancy Guthrie.”
In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino laid out three concerning possibilities in the Nancy Guthrie disappearance case, adding that the lack of early answers suggests either a calculated crime or that the initial story may not be fully true.

Bongino told Hannity: “I see three possibilities. The first is that this was obviously a kidnapping—an intended kidnapping for a ransom payment. The second possibility is that this was just a crime that went awry. Someone was at the house, maybe it was a burglary, something went bad, and you have some bad actors committing another crime by requesting a ransom for something they didn’t do, just to take advantage of a situation like this. The third possibility is that there may have been some kind of medical emergency or something, and maybe this was not a kidnapping. When you can’t find someone in a crime scene like this right away, within the first couple of days, you either have really good, surgical-type operators, or the story you’ve been told—or believed—might not be the story.”
