Israeli authorities have confirmed that the two bodies of children handed over by Hamas this morning are indeed those of Ariel and Kfir Bibas, who were brutally murdered on November 2023 during their captivity in Gaza. However, the body of the adult handed over is not that of Shiri Bibas.
According to an IDF statement, following the completion of the identification process by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, in collaboration with the Israel Police, IDF representatives informed the Bibas family that their loved ones, Ariel and Kfir, had been identified.
The IDF statement reads: “Following the completion of the identification process by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine in collaboration with the Israel Police, IDF representatives informed the Bibas family that their loved ones, Ariel and Kfir Bibas, have been identified. According to the assessment of professional officials, based on the intelligence available to us and forensic findings from the identification process, Ariel and Kfir Bibas were brutally murdered by terrorists in captivity in November 2023. During the identification process, it was determined that the additional body received is not that of Shiri Bibas, and no match was found for any other hostage. This is an anonymous, unidentified body.”
The IDF condemned the actions of the Hamas terrorist organization, stating this was a severe violation of the agreement to return deceased hostages. The statement concluded with a call for Hamas to return Shiri Bibas, along with all remaining hostages.
The Head of the IDF’s Hostage Families Unit, Major General Lior Carmeli, and IDF Spokesperson Brigadier General Daniel Hagari met with Yarden Bibas and his family in the past few hours at the Kfar Maccabiah conference center in Tel Aviv. They provided the family with details after visiting the National Institute of Forensic Medicine in Abu Kabir earlier.
The IDF Spokesperson’s statement, which was released, was approved in coordination with Yarden Bibas and the rest of the family.
