Jordan’s king agreed to absorb 2,000 sick Palestinian children in Gaza Tuesday, after Arab countries balked at the proposed relocation of Gazans presented by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to reporters in Washington.

The President, who met with King Abdullah II in the White House Tuesday afternoon together with Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, called the king’s offer a “beautiful gesture.” The king said the question is how to make it work “that is best for everybody.”

Trump had threatened to withhold aid from Jordan and Egypt if they refuse to accept Gazans, as part of his outline for a post-war Gaza to be rebuilt and for no remnant of Hamas terrorists to be left there.

Trump is set to meet with Egypt’s president later Tuesday; Trump said he was almost sure an agreement can be made with that country, too.

“We’re going to run it very properly,” Trump said of Gaza.

“You’re going to eventually have peace in the Middle East,” Trump said.

No one will want to stay in Gaza, Trump says, calling it a “death trap.” There have been contradictory remarks between Trump and the White House if the proposed relocation will be voluntary and/or permanent.

When asked about his threat to withhold aid, Trump noted the U.S. gives a lot of money, but threats were not necessary. “I do think we’re above that,” he said.
