In a shocking pro terror move widely criticized as anti-Israel, left wing Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced today, Wednesday, that Canada will recognize a “State of Palestine” at the UN General Assembly in September.
This decision, coming less than two years after the horrific October 7 Hamas attack that killed over 1,200 Israelis and saw hundreds taken hostage, has sparked outrage for its timing, as 50 hostages are still being held in Gaza under dire conditions, with around 20 believed to be alive and about 30 presumed dead.
Carney’s alignment with France and the UK, who have also just declared similar intentions to recognize Palestinian statehood, has intensified criticism from Canadian conservatives and pro-Israel groups, who argue that recognizing Palestinian statehood now dismisses Israel’s existential threats and emboldens terror groups, further complicating peace efforts.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry condemned the announcement as a “dangerous precedent” that undermines Israel’s security and rewards terrorism, particularly given Hamas’s ongoing captivity of hostages and the unresolved trauma of the October 7 atrocities.
