CBS News has named Kenneth R. Weinstein, former president and CEO of the conservative Hudson Institute, as its new ombudsman to monitor bias at the network.

Weinstein, who has long been active in Jewish community leadership roles in the Washington, DC area, led the Hudson Institute from 2011 to 2020. He currently serves as the think tank’s Japan chair.

“We look forward to welcoming Ken as our new Ombudsman,” said Paramount President Jeff Shell in a statement. “At a time when trust in media is more important than ever, this new role reinforces our commitment to truth, trust, and accountability.”

The move comes shortly after reports that Paramount, CBS’s parent company, is preparing to acquire The Free Press, the news outlet founded by Jewish journalist Bari Weiss, in a deal valued at more than $100 million.
