Hamas terror organization spokesman has announced that it’s delaying the release of hostages scheduled for this Saturday until further notice, citing “Israel’s failure to commit to the agreement.”
This development puts the fragile ceasefire at risk of collapse. The release of hostages is a critical component of the ceasefire deal, which also involves the exchange of Palestinian terrorist prisoners for Israeli hostages.
This Hamas threat is happening after Israel has already lost all its leverage during the first phase: It is now left without control of the Netzarim corridor, allowing free passage of Gazans to the north, and the transfer of ‘wounded’ through the Rafah crossing.
Israel’s Defense Minister, Yisrael Katz, condemns Hamas’ announcement to halt the release of Israeli hostages, calling it a “blatant violation” of the ceasefire agreement and hostage release deal.
DM Katz instructed the Israeli military to be on high alert for any possible scenario in Gaza and to defend Israeli towns. He emphasized that Israel will not allow a return to the reality of October 7.
