A Charedi man was violently assaulted in a suburb of Paris on Shabbos morning as he walked home from the mikveh, French language i24 News reported Sunday. “I was punched in the face. The attacker attacked me for at least five minutes,” the victim, Gilles Cohen, recounted.

The incident took place around 7:30 a.m., when Cohen was suddenly struck from behind. He said the assailant repeatedly punched him in the face and shouted during the attack. “I couldn’t see him; he attacked me from behind,” Cohen explained.

At the time, Cohen was wearing a yarmulke, making him visibly identifiable as Jewish. The attacker, reportedly of North African descent, did not exchange any words but continued hitting him several times before fleeing.

Out of concern for the safety of his local community, Cohen declined to reveal the exact city where the attack occurred. Instead, he identified the location only as being in the Île-de-France region, which includes Paris.
