Rabbi Kalman Bar, Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi of Israel, welcomed Sheikh Qassem Bader, prominent Druze leader and President of the World Council for Peace, to his office Sunday.
The meeting was arranged by Amichai Levi, a member of the World Council for Peace, and centered on the urgent crisis facing the Druze community in Syria. Sheikh Bader thanked Rabbi Bar for publicly urging both Israel and the global community to act in defense of the Druze, who are facing serious threats in the war-torn country.
Sheikh Bader also conveyed the heavy sorrow and anguish being felt by the Druze people, along with their growing fear of another wave of violence.
Rabbi Bar responded with heartfelt condolences and emphasized that the Jewish people stand in full solidarity with the Druze during these dark times. He underscored the moral duty of both Israel and the world to support the Druze in their hour of need.
Reflecting on how Jewish people want peace, Rabbi Bar pointed to the Sukkos karbanos of 70 cows in the Beis Hamikdash, “to bring peace among all 70 nations.”
“Am Yisrael cannot be quiet in light of all that is happening to the Druze,” he said.
