White House Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to convene in Miami on Friday with top officials from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey to address the stalled implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, a White House official told The Times of Israel, confirming earlier reporting by Axios.
According to the report, the four mediating countries assess that both Israel and Hamas terrorists are deliberately slowing progress in order to avoid advancing to the deal’s next stage, and they are seeking to coordinate a unified strategy to press both sides to move ahead.
The talks mark the most senior-level gathering of ceasefire mediators since the agreement took effect in October. Participants are expected to include Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
The Miami meeting comes ahead of a planned discussion between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Monday, where the Gaza ceasefire is expected to be among the top issues on the agenda.
