Law enforcement officers clashed with hundreds of demonstrators Motzoei Shabbos outside the city of Ofakim. The unrest, which saw police deploy stun grenades and arrest three individuals, was sparked by the earlier detention of an avreich by military authorities.

The protests were sparked by the arrest of Rabbi Avraham Ben Dayan, a resident of Netivot who got married two months ago. He learns in Yeshivas Maor Talmud, and was initially stopped by traffic police in the town of Tifrach over Shabbos.

According to available details regarding the chain of custody, he was first processed at the Ofakim police station following his traffic stop. He was subsequently transferred to the custody of the Military Police at the Bachdim training complex and is reportedly scheduled for transfer to Prison 10.

As news of the detention spread, a large crowd gathered at the intersection of Highway 241 leading into Ofakim. The situation quickly escalated as protesters barricaded the road, creating severe traffic jams in the surrounding area. Police intervention to clear the blockade involved the use of crowd-control measures, including stun grenades.

Israeli news outlets reported that three participants were arrested during the dispersal efforts.

A statement from the Southern District Police confirmed that forces were deployed to the junction to reopen the roads and suppress the disturbance.
