Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent pro-Trump influencer, has died at 31 from gunshot wounds sustained during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. His death was confirmed by President Donald Trump.

The fatal shooting occurred approximately 20 minutes into Kirk’s presentation on Wednesday afternoon. According to witnesses, a single gunshot interrupted the speech, and Kirk was seen collapsing on stage as a panicked crowd fled. He was transported to a local medical center but succumbed to his injuries.

President Trump issued a statement on his social media platform, confirming Kirk’s passing. “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump wrote. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

The shooting prompted an immediate response from law enforcement, with officers from the Orem Police Department and UVU Campus Police arriving within minutes. An eyewitness told reporters that Kirk appeared to have been shot in the neck. A male suspect in his 60s was arrested in connection with the incident.

Prior to the confirmation of his death, several political figures expressed their concern and offered prayers for Kirk. Vice President J.D. Vance had tweeted, “Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father.” Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu also posted that he was praying for Kirk.

FBI Director Kash Patel said his agency was “closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting” and that the FBI “stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.”

Kirk, was the founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA. His events on college campuses were known for drawing both large crowds of supporters and groups of protesters.
