The Israeli Mission to the UN marked Israel’s 77th Independence Day this evening at the UN Headquarters in New York, in a celebration attended by dozens of ambassadors from around the world.
Malawi’s Ambassador to the UN, Dr. Agnes Chimbiri-Molande, who recently participated in the UN Ambassadors’ historic delegation to Auschwitz for the March of the Living and southern Israel, as well as Israel supporter Robert Kraft.
During the event, Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon spoke about the establishment of the State of Israel and the ongoing struggle for its right to exist in security and peace. He also warned about the relentless Iranian attacks through regional proxies, and made it clear: “If the Houthis and their Iranian masters continue to attack us, mark my words, they will find their own lands unrecognizable.”
He continued: “Israel is not a footnote in history – it is a driving force in history. Even after 77 years of independence, we are still forced to fight for our very right to exist in security and peace.”
Malawi’s ambassador to the UN, who participated in the international delegation to Auschwitz and southern Israel, added: “Visiting Israel was a powerful and unforgettable experience for me. I stood in the face of destruction – but also in the face of hope. Israel is a living example to the world of how one can continue to build and believe, even when attempts are made repeatedly to destroy it.”
Robert Kraft, founder of the “Stand Up to Jewish Hate” initiative and owner of the New England Patriots football team, said: “Today more than ever we must stand shoulder to shoulder with Israel. The Jewish people have contributed to the entire world – in science, technology, medicine and humanity. It is time for the world to recognize and protect this contribution.”
