The announcement of the agreement between Israel and Hamas, which includes a temporary ceasefire and potentially a permanent end to the conflict, has caused a rift within Prime Minister Netanyahu’s coalition. Meanwhile, opposition leaders Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz have pledged their support to help pass the hostage and ceasefire deal with the Hamas terror organization.
Religious Zionism party leader and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich strongly opposed the deal earlier this afternoon, stating: “The deal that will be presented to the government is a bad and dangerous deal for Israel’s national security. We firmly oppose it.”
Minister Smotrich set a clear condition for remaining in the government: “Absolute certainty that we will return to war with full intensity, on a large scale, and in a new format, until we achieve complete victory, including the destruction of the Hamas terror organization and the return of all hostages to their homes.”
Sources close to National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir told Belaaz News that Ben Gvir canceled his schedule today and worked to convince Smotrich to resign with him from the government in order to block the deal from going through. However, since Smotrich did not agree, Ben Gvir has decided not to resign alone.

In contrast, opposition leaders Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz have publicly offered to support Netanyahu’s coalition, aiming to ensure the return of all hostages.
President Isaac Herzog also issued a statement this evening, calling on cabinet members to approve the deal at tomorrow’s meeting and facilitate the return of the hostages.
