Roughly 30 pro-Hamas demonstrators were arrested after occupying a University of Washington engineering building and demanding the school cut all ties with aerospace company Boeing.

The group behind the protest, Super UW, began their occupation of the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building on Monday night. They renamed the facility after Shaban al-Dalou, an engineering student who, along with his mother, was killed by Hamas weapons catching fire after an Israeli airstrike near a hospital in Gaza.

Protesters insisted that the university cut all affiliations with Boeing, including returning any financial contributions and prohibiting its staff from teaching or participating in campus affairs. According to its website, Boeing operates a plant in Renton that produces both commercial and military aircraft.

A separate group of protesters dressed in black used furniture to block the building’s main entrance and placed dumpsters in the roadway near Jefferson Street to prevent access.

University of Washington police, in coordination with Seattle police, cleared the building around 10:30 p.m., according to university spokesperson Victor Balta. Those arrested are facing charges such as trespassing, property damage, and disorderly conduct. Their cases will be referred to King County prosecutors.

Balta added that any students involved in the protest will be referred to the university’s Student Conduct Office for disciplinary review.
