Hours after the announcement of the approval of the hostage release deal and ahead of the government’s approval, national security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has declared that he will resign from the government after the deal is approved.
Ben Gvir held a press conference moments ago, announcing that after a conversation with Prime Minister Netanyahu, he is set to resign from the government if the deal is approved during the cabinet meeting on Saturday night.
The Minister stated that he would rejoin the government if the war continues. Until then, he will work to pressure Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to also resign and prevent the approval of the hostage deal after Shabbat.
In his statement, Ben Gvir made it clear that he will continue to support the government from outside the coalition in order to avoid elections, noting that the government has a majority even without his support.
