The Senate cleared the way for the Epstein Files Transparency Act to reach President Trump, agreeing Tuesday to approve the measure the moment it arrives from the House. Senators granted unanimous consent to fast-track the legislation, ensuring immediate passage once the House formally transmits it.
The bill — which mandates the Justice Department release documents related to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell within 30 days of becoming law — had already sailed through the House in a 427–1 vote. President Trump has said he intends to sign it.
The measure includes exceptions to protect survivors’ private information and other sensitive material. Its movement this week followed months of delay, with House Republicans shifting course after Trump dropped his earlier opposition. Many GOP lawmakers still blasted the push as political theater, accusing Democrats of seeking ammunition against the president, even as they ultimately backed the bill.
A procedural breakthrough last week forced the matter to the House floor, after four Republicans joined all Democrats in signing a petition to advance it. House Speaker Mike Johnson had opposed that maneuver but supported the final vote.
On the Senate floor Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer secured the agreement to approve the measure instantly once it arrives.
“My unanimous consent request guarantees that the Senate will immediately pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act without any further action as soon as it comes over from the House,” he said. “We will pass the House’s bill without changes, without delay and we will finally get this done.”
“The Senate has now passed the Epstein bill as soon as it comes over from the House,” Schumer added, confirming there would be no amendments.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune told reporters the House is expected to send the bill Wednesday morning, triggering the final step before it reaches the president’s desk.
