With President Trump’s return to the White House, the push for peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia is also making a comeback, as efforts in Washington are underway to accelerate the agreement. However, Belaaz can reveal that there are those in Israel who are cooling the excitement, despite recent reports that a normalization agreement can happen very soon.

Aryeh Deri, chairman of the Shas party, a close ally of Prime Minister Netanyahu who has become a key figure in security and diplomatic matters since the beginning of the war, and a member of Israel’s security cabinet, addressed the issue.

Belaaz obtained an exclusive quote from Deri’s conversation with several of his close associates which reveals his stance on the possibility of normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia. He stated: “The agreement with Saudi Arabia will take a few more months”

Sources close to Deri explained to Belaaz that the reason for this delay is the potential for further fighting in Gaza until all hostages are brought home. As long as Israel remains engaged in Gaza, the Saudis are not expected to make any official announcements about an agreement with Israel.

It’s worth noting that just last week, President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu discussed Saudi Arabia during a press briefing at the White House, with Netanyahu remarking, “It will happen”. Apparently not too soon.
