The U.S. Navy announced today (Monday) reported that an F/A-18E fighter jet, valued at $70 million, rolled off the USS Harry S. Truman and sank in the Red Sea due to human error.

According to the statement, the incident occurred while the jet was being towed from the hangar bay, causing it and the tow tractor to go overboard. One enlisted crew member was aboard the jet and another in the tractor; both escaped, with one sustaining minor injuries.

The Navy says it is investigating the mishap. The USS Harry S. Truman has been deployed in the Red Sea since September, protecting commercial ships from Houthi attacks.
