Election

In the aftermath of race deemed neck and neck by virtually every poll, Donald Trump appears to be on the verge of a landslide victory, sweeping 88 more electoral college votes than his Democratic opponent.
The first network to call Arizona just did so, with Decision Desk awarding the state’s 11 votes to Trump. The former president is about five points ahead in nearby Nevada as well, which together would give him 316 votes. This is well above the 270 needed to win the White House.
Trump has also won the popular vote, with 72 million votes compared with 67 million for Kamala Harris.
Trump, similar to virtually every other president of the modern era, will enter office with control of both the Senate and the House. The Senate margin is 52 Republicans to 44 Democrats, with the GOP having flipped two seats. That majority is likely to be padded by wins in Pennsylvania and Nevada, where the Republican candidate is leading, for a 54 to 46 majority.
The GOP Senate will allow Trump to get his legislative agenda passed in Congress while allowing for some moderates to defect.
In the House, called races currently have Republicans taking 206 seats to the Democrats’ 190. A total of 218 is required for a majority. Republicans are leading in enough races that networks have given them a 95 percent chance of retaining control.
