On Wednesday, Yehuda Avidan, Director-General of the Ministry of Religious Services, reached out to Police Commissioner Major General Danni Levy to warn about a serious threat made against Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara.

The alert came after the office of former Sephardic Chief Rabbi Harav Yitzchak Yosef received a disturbing request from a citizen asking for his approval to harm Baharav-Miara, under the laws of a rodef.

According to the letter sent to police, “The rabbi’s office warned of a threat that seems real and could immediately endanger the life of the Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara.”

Rav Yosef also ordered that the matter be urgently passed on to the police for further action.

Following receipt of the warning, police announced they had launched an investigation. Authorities confirmed that a threatening letter had been discovered near a private home in a city, explicitly targeting Baharav-Miara.
