France and Saudi Arabia Propose Disarming Hamas, Retaining Limited Political Role

France and Saudi Arabia are reportedly developing a proposal to disarm Hamas terrorists, while allowing it to retain a limited role in Gaza’s political structure, Bloomberg reported Thursday.
According to unnamed sources involved in the discussions, Saudi officials have initiated contact with Hamas. However, the report noted that it remains unclear whether France has engaged directly with the Iran-backed terror group.
The initiative aims to convert Hamas, which believes in destroying Israel and the genocide of all Jews, “into a purely political entity that can still play some role in future Palestinian governance,” in hopes that such a shift will prompt the group to give up its weapons.
French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman plan to jointly host a United Nations conference next month, which will promote a two-state solution and may include a declaration recognizing a Palestinian state. Israel opposes such a move, warning it would effectively reward Hamas for the October 7 massacre
