France says a meeting held today in Geneva with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and senior European officials is aimed at restarting nuclear negotiations that stalled due to the ongoing Israel–Iran war.
According to a statement from the French foreign ministry, the talks are intended “to call for a return to the diplomatic path and continuing negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program.”
During a call last night between French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, both agreed that “Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programs pose a threat to Israel, the region and Europe,” a French diplomatic source said.
Rubio reiterated the United States is “ready for direct talks with the Iranians at any time,” while Barrot shared the meeting framework involving Araghchi and representatives from the UK, France, Germany, and the European Union’s foreign policy chief.
Rubio also spoke with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Thursday, as Washington weighs whether to join Israel’s military campaign against Iran, a decision expected within two weeks.
