Edan Alexander, who was held hostage by Hamas, is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump Thursday, according to Channel 12. The meeting follows his release in early May as part of a deal brokered by the United States.
Channel 12 reports that Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will welcome the 21-year-old dual U.S.-Israeli national at the White House at noon.
Before Trump’s upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in Washington next Monday, Edan is expected to express his thanks to the president for helping secure his release, while also urging action to free the approximately 50 hostages still being held by Hamas in Gaza.
Edan, who was freed by Hamas on May 12 after 584 days in captivity, returned to his hometown of Tenafly, New Jersey, last month. Hamas terrorists described his release as a goodwill gesture to Trump, hoping the U.S. leader would encourage Israel to pursue a deal to end the war.
