During his party’s weekly Knesset meeting, National Unity Party leader Benny Gantz warned that Israel must align itself with American initiatives in the Middle East or risk being left behind.
Gantz, echoing fellow opposition figures, praised the imminent release of hostage Edan Alexander thanks to US efforts, yet criticized the Israeli government for its lack of direct action to secure the freedom of the remaining captives held by Hamas.
Addressing Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Gantz urged him not to “put preserving the coalition above preserving Israel’s security and solidarity in Israeli society.”
He asserted that Hamas terrorists are in a weakened position and now is the time to implement a strategy that would secure the hostages’ release, disarm Gaza, and replace Hamas’s leadership.
Commenting on US regional policy, Gantz noted that “the American administration is determined to promote normalization with Saudi Arabia and other large and significant countries in the region.”
He emphasized the stakes, saying Israel must either undergo a strategic shift by joining the US-led regional initiative, counter Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and support broader diplomatic progress—or risk being excluded. “The opportunity to change the Middle East must not be missed because of political considerations,” he added.
