A group of officials in Gaza sent a letter on Friday to US President Donald Trump, expressing gratitude for his role in ending the war in Gaza and inviting him to visit the territory.
The signatories included Yahya al-Sarraj, mayor of Gaza City; Iyad Abu Ramadan, head of the Gaza Chamber of Commerce; economist Soufian Odeh; and several other business and academic figures. Their joint letter, obtained by The Times of Israel, lauds Trump for what they described as decisive leadership in bringing about a ceasefire.
“We wish to express our sincere gratitude for your leadership and unwavering commitment to ending the war in Gaza… Your efforts have restored to us the most vital thing — hope,” the letter states.
Alongside their thanks, the officials called for large-scale reconstruction of Gaza and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The letter concludes with a personal invitation to the former US president: “We would be deeply honored to welcome you to Gaza to witness firsthand the resilience of our people and the renewal your leadership has helped make possible.”
