An Israeli soldier was killed and five others were injured, three seriously, in a Hamas terrorist ambush in northern Gaza on Shabbos afternoon, marking the first Israeli army death since the collapse of the ceasefire and the resumption of fighting, the military announced.

The fallen soldier has been identified as Warrant Officer G’haleb Sliman Alnasasra, 35, a tracker serving in the Gaza Division’s Northern Brigade. He was a resident of the Bedouin town of Rahat .

The deadly attack occurred during operations by the 252nd Division near Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza. The division had been working to dismantle Hamas infrastructure, including tunnels, as part of efforts to expand Israel’s security buffer zone, which now covers more than 30 percent of the Strip.

According to an initial IDF investigation, the incident began at 12:58 p.m. when a group of Israeli soldiers driving along a logistics road near a military encampment inside Gaza came under attack. Hamas operatives emerged from a tunnel shaft and fired an RPG at the soldiers’ unarmored vehicle.

Three female soldiers from the 414th Combat Intelligence Collection Unit were wounded in the RPG strike. Two of them, an officer and a combat medic, were reported to be in serious condition.

Rescue forces, led by Northern Brigade Commander Col. Omri Mashiah and accompanied by brigade trackers, arrived at the scene shortly afterward.

At 1:25 p.m., Hamas operatives detonated a roadside explosive near the responding troops, killing Alnasasra and wounding two other trackers, one of them seriously.

In retaliation, the IDF launched a series of airstrikes in the area, aiming to eliminate the Hamas cell responsible for the coordinated attack.

Alnasasra’s death raises the total number of Israeli fatalities during the ground offensive in Gaza and along the border to 411. That number includes a police officer killed during a hostage rescue and two civilian contractors working for the Defense Ministry.
