Gaza – In a recent operational mission, IDF soldiers uncovered a handwritten note believed to be from Matan Tzangauker, one of the hostages held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza. The note—written in Hebrew, Arabic, and English—marks a critical sign of life from the Hostage.
According to a report in Haaretz, the note was discovered inside an extensive underground Hamas terror compound, where other hostages—now sadly confirmed dead—were also held, along with senior Hamas terrorists. The note was later handed over to Matan’s mother, Einav, who identified the handwriting as her son’s. Matan had learned Arabic prior to his abduction to Gaza.

The note reportedly included his full name in Hebrew, English, and Arabic, along with his ID number. It stated that his condition was “good” and that he was working as a “farmer” during his time in captivity.
Security officials believe that other hostages may have written similar messages. In the same area, bottles containing urine were found and tested positive for Matan’s DNA, leading experts to believe the note was written shortly before the other hostages in the compound were killed.
Matan’s mother, Einav, shared this past weekend during a public event in Tel Aviv. She revealed that following the release of Idan Alexander, another Israeli hostage freed last week, she received a new indication that her son is still alive—the first sign of life since Hamas released a video of her son in December.
“What I can say this morning, following Idan’s release, is that we received a sign of life from Matan. Matan is still alive”, his mother said.
