Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Monday that his state will have its own Department of Government Efficiency task force, using the same name as Elon Musk’s unofficial federal oversight agency.

The task force will help streamline the government and “eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy” to ensure tax dollars are used efficiently, DeSantis told reporters.

“A state DOGE task force that will implement a multi-pronged approach to eliminating bureaucratic bloat and modernizing our state government to best serve the people of Florida in the years ahead,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis said he wants to eliminate 740 state government positions and up to 70 state boards, but will add positions in other state agencies in need of more staff, like the Department of Corrections and Florida Highway Patrol.

Florida’s task force will be in place for a “limited amount of time” and its members will serve for one year, DeSantis said.
