Keren Olam Hatorah, which offered vital relief to Yeshivos and Kollelim for the past year, will continue this year in accordance with the ruling of Hagaon Harav Moshe Hillel Hirsch shlita, Israeli media reported Monday.

As the inaugural year of the ambitious keren initiative draws to a close, an effort launched to raise $107 million to support Torah institutions in the face of painful budget cuts, the decision was made to continue the effort.

“For this purpose,” a statement released by the keren said, “Harav Hirsch, along with other Gedolim from all circles, will likely embark on a journey around the world immediately after Shavuos.”

This resolution followed several months of discussions between Harav Hirsch and askanim, as well as recent visits from Roshei Yeshiva to his home, urging him to ensure the continuation of the fund that sustained Torah institutions throughout the past year.

According to reports in Israeli media, during a Chol Hamoed Pesach visit by Harav Aviezer Piltz, Rosh Yeshiva of Tifrach, to Harav Hirsch’s residence, the latter expressed uncertainty about extending the fundraising effort. However, after a thorough and extended deliberation, a firm conclusion was reached.

Over the past year, the fund delivered tens of millions of dollars in support to hundreds of yeshivos nationwide, offering a vital response to severe government budget reductions. Its impact has been, and remains, essential to the continued flourishing of Torah learning.
