The Hamas terror groups claimed on Monday it has agreed to the Witkoff proposed ceasefire deal to release 10 hostages in two phases and establish a 70-day temporary ceasefire, followed by negotiations for a permanent ceasefire with US guarantees, a source told Reuters.
However, White House Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff swiftly rejected Hamas’s claim. In an interview with Walla reporter Barak Ravid, he called the group’s response “disappointing and completely unacceptable.”
Witkoff clarified that Israel supports a temporary ceasefire deal involving the release of half the living and half the deceased hostages, which would lead to “substantive negotiations” for a permanent ceasefire under his oversight. “That deal is on the table. Hamas should take it,” he said.
