A Hamas terrorist commander responsible for the deadliest attack on Israeli soldiers during the ongoing war was killed in a drone strike over the weekend, according to a statement from the IDF and the Shin Bet.
The military identified the commander as Khalil Abed al-Nasser Mohammad Hatib, who led a Hamas cell within the terror group’s Maghazi Battalion. The cell was behind a rocket-propelled grenade attack near the Israeli border on January 22, 2024.
That attack targeted two buildings that had been set up for demolition, as well as a tank positioned to protect Israeli troops. The strike killed 21 soldiers, making it the worst assault on Israeli forces since the war began.
According to the IDF, troops from the 414th Combat Intelligence Collection Unit located Hatib on Friday and directed a drone strike that eliminated him.
