Heavy fighting erupted Friday morning in Khan Yunis when Hamas’ Saham unit clashed with members of the powerful Al-Majaida clan. According to Gazan sources, the exchange of fire involved RPGs, small arms, and even explosive devices, leaving scores of dead and wounded.
Blogger Abu Ali Akspas, citing Fatah-linked sources, reported that dozens of Hamas gunmen stormed a family tent belonging to the Al-Majaida clan, killing several inside. Some accounts claim those slain were previously targeted by Hamas, with today’s raid framed as a revenge attack.
The Al-Majaida clan retaliated with heavy fire, reportedly killing between 11 and 22 Hamas operatives. Hamas-affiliated media also claimed that Israeli drones intervened during the chaos, firing at the scene and killing additional Gazans.
The incident highlights a growing challenge for Hamas, which is now facing armed resistance from within Gaza itself; even in Khan Yunis, long considered a Hamas stronghold and the home base of leader Yahya Sinwar. Hotbeds of Hamas terrorism supporters online have been flooded with criticism of Hamas for directing its weapons against Gazans rather than Israel.
Fatah-linked outlets published disturbing images of dead Hamas operatives from the Saham unit scattered across Khan Yunis’ 5th Street. Reports say clan members stomped on the bodies in humiliation, some were dumped into trash piles, and Hamas vehicles were torched. Witnesses described “dozens of dead” on the ground.
Further reports allege that wounded clan fighters evacuated to Nasser Hospital were executed at close range by Hamas operatives inside the hospital grounds. Abu Ali Akspas described the bloodshed as a “large-scale incident” that cannot be ignored.
Sources further claimed that the Al-Majaida clan kidnapped at least five Hamas operatives alive and is holding them as bargaining chips. There are also unconfirmed reports that Abu Hamad Hamdan, the commander of Hamas’ Khan Yunis Brigade, may have been killed during the clashes.
In an interview with Kan News, Hussam al-Astal, leader of an anti-Hamas faction operating in Khan Yunis, asserted that the IDF played a role by launching an airstrike that eliminated “at least 22 terrorists.”
The background to the feud appears to stem from an earlier beating of a Saham unit operative by members of the clan. Hamas’ assault on the family was widely seen as a revenge operation, but instead it spiraled into one of the bloodiest internal battles seen in Gaza in recent years.
