Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has removed Tzachi Hanegbi from his role as National Security Adviser.

The move comes after Hanegbi opposed an attack on Qatar and the Gideon’s Chariots II operation. “Prime Minister Netanyahu informed me of his intention to appoint a new head of the NSC.”

“Prime Minister Netanyahu informed me today of his intention to appoint a new head of the National Security Council (NSC). Accordingly, my tenure as National Security Advisor and head of the National Security Headquarters will conclude today. I will, of course, be available to assist my successor as needed”, Hanegbi said in a statement on Tuesday evening.

“I expressed my gratitude to the Prime Minister for the privilege of contributing to shaping Israel’s foreign and security policies during challenging years, for the opportunity to express independent views in sensitive discussions, and for the professional dialogue we maintained, even during disagreements.”
